Overview
As a volunteer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen you become part of a team of caring professionals, all of whom share a passion and commitment for helping both patients and their families. These volunteers are also committed to the mission of Texas Health Allen: helping to improve the health of the people in the communities it serves. At this time, 48 active volunteers – comprised of a diverse group of both men and women – meet regularly to not only conduct business but get to know one another, build friendships and share ideas and experiences.

Volunteer Program
All Texas Health Allen volunteers must be 18 or older. Each prospective volunteer attends an eight-hour orientation session along with eight hours of hands-on training. This training is conducted at the information desk located in the hospital lobby, where the new volunteer "mentors" with an existing volunteer for a minimum of two four-hour shifts. If the new volunteer feels a need for additional training, that sentiment is supported with further instruction so that the new volunteer is most comfortable in his or her new role.
In addition to providing a presence at the information desk, other areas within the hospital rely on the important support and assistance that volunteers provide. In the Emergency Department, a volunteer is scheduled seven days a week to help with the significant volume of patients who are treated and processed. Other departments where volunteers play an important role include Medical Records (five days a week); Nutrition/Dietary (three days a week); Materials Management and Radiology (two days a week); and Finance (one day a week). Volunteers also assist with staff and patient needs on the Med/Surg floor and the Mother/Baby unit.

Application Information
Volunteers are valued members of the team at every Texas Health Resources facility and Texas Health Allen is no exception. If you are interested in helping to fulfill our commitment to the community's health, application packets are available for pick-up at the hospital's information desk.
