Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFACTIONS
Education: Associate's degree in Medical Technology or related field.
Certification/Registrations required: MLT(ASCP) or equivalent.
Experience: 1 year for Bachelor degree individuals (may include MT) internship. 2 years for MLT (ASCP). Microbiology culture reading experience required.
Skills: Keyboard skills for data entry, administrative skills to accurately compile statistics and maintain logs. Good communication skills both written and oral.
Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or related field. MT(ASCP) certification. Microbiology experience.
Hours: 8 days on, 6 days off: 9:30pm - 8:00am.
Duties
I. Specimen Integrity •Evaluates and solves problems related to the collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis.
II. Testing •Performs complex laboratory procedures. •Maintains workstation operations: including supplies, reagents and cleanliness. •Reports results accurately. Recognizes and investigates deviations from expected results. •Is familiar with testing methodologies and their limitations. •Maintains competencies
III. Quality Control •Demonstrates understanding of QC guidelines. •Performs routine quality control and maintains accurate records. •Recognizes out of range control results. •Follows laboratory policies when QC is not within established limits
IV. Communication •Communicates laboratory results, policies issues or other appropriate information to authorized personnel. •Practices good customer service to internal and external customers. •Communicates problems, significant errors, and factors that may affect patient, visitor or patient safety to appropriate personnel •Protects patient confidentiality
