Seventy million Americans deal with digestive disorders, according to the Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas has a Gastrointestinal (GI) Lab that is one of the largest in Texas to address these disorders.
Physicians on the medical staff provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in the GI Lab for gastrointestinal disorders associated with the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liver, gallbladder and colon.
Patient Centered Care
Opened in 2003, the GI Lab is designed to care for an increasing number of patients in a more efficient manner and with added comfort, privacy and convenience. The 8,000-square-foot lab is located on the first floor of the hospital's main building and includes a private registration and waiting area. The lab's 21 preparation and recovery rooms include facilities for family members to sit with patients. The lab also features eight endoscopic procedure rooms designed for specialty procedures and a room designed for pulmonary exams with fluoroscopy with special ventilation systems for containment of infections.
A Team Approach
Physicians on the medical staff, representing a variety of specialties, work together with other health care professionals to provide care and education for GI patients. Gastroenterologists, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists and oncologists – as well as technicians and dietitians – may be a part of a patient's care team.
