John E. Willard, M.D., FACC Medical Director Texas Health Harris Methodist Heart Center
Willard was born in Fredonia, Kan. Graduating with honors, he received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Emporia State University. Willard graduated with distinction from Tulane University School of Medicine, where he was the recipient of the Golden Stethoscope Award and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his post graduate training in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and received certification as a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine with a sub-specialty in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology.
Following his post graduate instruction, Willard remained at UT Southwestern for an additional five years as an assistant professor in the division of cardiology. He has grown a large private practice with Consultants in Cardiology over the past 12 years and interfaced his role as one of the leaders within the practice with his leadership role at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth. Willard has served on numerous committees within the hospital, including his role as Cardiology Division Chief, Cardiac Services Committee, Cardiology Continuous Improvement, Endovascular Continuous Improvement, and Emergency Department Continuous Improvement. He is also a member of several professional societies that include the Council on Cardiology for the American Heart Association, American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association and Tarrant County Medical Society.
During his tenure at UT Southwestern, Willard published more than 60 articles and participated in numerous clinical trials, including "Early Revascularization in Acute Myocardial Infarction Complicated by Cardiogenic Shock," "The Coreg Heart Failure Registry" and "Reduction of Atherothrombosis for Continued Health." Willard is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, and interventional cardiology. His clinical interests include interventional cardiology, peripheral vascular disease, and general cardiology.
Currently, Willard serves as the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Services and the Chest Pain Center for Texas Health Fort Worth. He enjoys spending time with his children and reading fiction.
