Health Care Benefits

Medical Coverage: Texas Health offers five medical plan choices through UnitedHealthcare (UHC). They all include the UHC Choice network of providers. The difference in the plans is the amount of the deductible and coinsurance — and whether the plan covers out-of-network care. Texas Health pays over 80 percent of the premium cost for full-time employees. The employee's premiums depend on the plan chosen, number of covered dependents, employee's salary and full-time or part-time status.

Dental Coverage: Texas Health offers three dental plan options through Aetna. Two are dental PPOs and the third is a dental HMO. The PPOs pay a percentage of the cost of dental care after a $50 annual deductible. The dental HMO does not have a deductible and pays benefits according to a schedule. The employee's premiums depend on the plan selected and number of covered dependents.

Vision Coverage: Texas Health offers a vision plan through Superior Vision. It covers eye exams and glasses or contacts and many other vision supplies and services. The employee's premiums depend on the number of covered dependents.

Flexible Spending Accounts: Texas Health offers both a Health Care and a Dependent Care Spending Account. Employees can make pre-tax contributions of up to $5,000 per year to each account and receive tax-free reimbursements of eligible expenses from their accounts.

Be Healthy: Eligible employees can earn awards of up to $300 per year for completing a health assessment, lab panel, lifestyle management program, preventive exam, stress assessment and back health assessment. Each time the employee completes one of these elements, Be Healthy mails a gift card to the employee.

Tobacco Cessation Program: To encourage employees and their dependents to stop using tobacco, this free program includes nicotine replacement therapy and counseling.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP): All Texas Health employees are eligible for the EAP. It can help employees with issues such as relationships, parenting, stress, work or career issues, financial and legal matters, death and illness, as well as concerns about alcohol and drugs. Texas Health believes employees deserve a diverse suite of benefits — even non-traditional ones. The EAP can be used as a resource to find a plumber, a child-care facility, or even someone to pet-sit. Employees and dependents have access to unlimited telephone counseling and up to six face-to-face visits with a counselor per issue, per year. The EAP is voluntary and confidential and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Paid Time Off (PTO)
Employees may use PTO for holidays, vacation, and sick time. Full-time and part-time employees who are benefits eligible accrue paid time off each pay period. The amount of PTO accrued is determined by the employees' years of service and number of hours assigned. For example, full-time employees who work 64 to 80 hours per pay period can accrue 24 days of PTO in the first year. Other paid time off includes bereavement leave and jury duty.
