Texas Health Resources is presently conducting a national search for a Vice President of Human Resources. Headquartered in Arlington, Texas (in the Dallas-Fort Worth area), the system serves over 6.3 million people living in 29 counties in north central Texas. With over $2.0 billion in annual revenue, it is the largest fully integrated nonprofit healthcare organization in Texas and the ninth largest in the United States. THR has 13 acute-care hospitals with approximately 2,600 licensed hospital beds, employs approximately 18,000 people and counts 3,600 physicians with active staff privileges at its hospitals.

The incumbent will report to Senior Vice President, Human Resources (chief HR Officer) of Texas Health Resources and will function as an executive system leader overseeing the integration and alignment of HR services to strengthen and advance the systemness of Texas Health Resources. The incumbent has direct responsibility and authority for HR operations in multiple hospitals and system functions. The incumbent is one of two HR VPs that ensure alignment of HR services across the entire system through the consolidation of resources within HR and the systematic deployment of all employee programs and performance standards to consistently meet and exceed system goals on THR's journey to exceptional results. Through personal commitment and demonstration of horizontal collaboration at all levels and through active partnering with each other, HR Leaders and system executives, the incumbents will lead the transformation of human resources required for achieving outcomes associated with THR's Strategic Plan: To deliver outstanding value to all stakeholders and be nationally recognized as an excellent and innovative health care system through a culture where exceptional individuals care for individuals, together.

OVERALL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works both horizontally and vertically through the complete cadre of the THR workforce (employees, leadership, volunteers, physicians, etc.) serving as a resource to create an integrated "employee experience" that is consistent, high quality and cost effective at all entities throughout the system.

Participates with other HR leaders in the development of strategies that support the achievement of the organization's strategic plan and fulfillment of the THR Promise. Ensures consistency ("systemness") in thought and action with regard to HR strategies throughout the entire system.

Supports the implementation of THR's strategic plan through systematic, integrated, deployment of human resources for all assigned entities and functions. These responsibilities are primarily accomplished through direct report HR Leaders. The incumbents are responsible for creating a shared vision, inspiring a sense of purpose, fostering the creation of appropriate mental models, and leveraging systems and processes to achieve significant and enduring change.

Ensures human resources and support systems are in place to support the goals and objectives of the individual hospitals, service lines, ambulatory facilities and medical staffs.

Supports the Patient Safety Culture Initiative, quality and risk management programs and systems through the integration of Safe Choices with Progressive Corrective Action. Responsible for ensuring that the key attributes for successful performance are identified and measured, for assuring appropriate benchmarking is undertaken, and for establishing a value of continuous improvement in employee satisfaction, patient and customer satisfaction, expectation management, and clinical outcomes.

HUMAN RESOURCES OPERATIONS

Works closely with entity leaders and specific hospital management teams to identify and resolve HR matters related to the long- and short-term goals and objectives identified for the achievement of THR business strategies. Identifies and manages matters in collaboration with THR centers of expertise (e.g. THR Compensation, The Center for Learning, THR Benefits, etc.) to ensure consistent alignment and application of programs, initiatives, and activities throughout the organization.

Develops organization wide indicators to monitor the effectiveness of HR activities and practices and the continuing advancement of THR's one employer model, which is an essential maintenance area under THR's Advancing Systemness strategy.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

The incumbent will have a successful track record with at least ten years of experience in progressively responsible leadership positions in large, national or regional HR Operations that are similar in size and complexity to THR. A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Human Resources; a Master's degree is preferred.

The successful incumbent will possess a formal certification in Human Resources such as a SPHR, PHR, CCP, CEBS or other designation, or will commit to obtaining a certification within 24 months of assuming the position.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in acting as an "integrator", implementing change across operations and processes as well as cross team collaboration.

The incumbent will be a seasoned HR Leader with strong personal values systems compatible with THR. The incumbent must be a "true system thinker" who has successfully embraced and deployed transformational best practices across a large, matrixed and complex system. The incumbent will be forward thinking, with the ability to educate on the use of human resources, provide alternatives and think outside the box. The incumbent will possess truly outstanding communication skills, able to influence both with and without authority, and be able to relate to a wide variety of stakeholders and constituents by adapting interpersonal styles as needed.
