Cardiac Rehabilitation

Cardiac Rehabilitation is a progressive program with a goal of helping patients restore and maintain optimal health while helping to reduce the risk of future heart problems. Cardiac Rehabilitation sessions offer personalized exercise prescriptions, education and lifestyle-modification programs.

Patients who have had any of the following procedures or conditions may benefit from Cardiac Rehabilitation:

  • Heart attack
  • Atherosclerotic heart disease
  • Angina pectoris
  • Abnormal stress test
  • Valvular heart disease
  • Pacemaker or AICD
  • Heart failure
  • Angioplasty or artherectomy
  • Coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Heart transplant

Potential benefits of Cardiac Rehabilitation include:

  • Improvement of exercise tolerance
  • Reduction of symptoms 
  • Reduction of cholesterol levels
  • Reduction of cigarette smoking
  • Improvement in psychosocial well-being and reduction of stress
  • Lowering of blood pressure

Outpatient Rehabilitation Program
The Outpatient Rehabilitation Program includes education and continuous EKG monitored exercise therapy conducted by an exercise physiologist while under the care of a medical staff physician and a rehabilitation nurse. After discharge from the Outpatient Rehabilitation Program, patients may choose to continue a maintenance program at the Texas Health Finley Ewing Cardiovascular & Fitness Center Dallas. A maintenance program can be designed and discussed in further detail while in Cardiac Rehabilitation. 

Cardiac Rehabilitation Team
As part of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program's multidisciplinary team is led by physicians on the medical staff. The team also includes cardiac rehabilitation nurses, exercise physiologists, physical therapists and fitness specialists, as well as registered dietitians, psychologists, pharmacists and chaplains. 

Times and Location
Sessions are held at 7 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Registration and check in occurs at at 5721 Phoenix Drive.

Insurance Coverage
Medicare and many other insurance companies can cover a large portion, if not all, of the cost of cardiac rehabilitation for most heart problems. Insurance benefits will be verified before participants start the program.
