Eye Plaque Implant

Eye plaque implants are used to administer radiation therapy to cancerous tumors in the eye. For this procedure, physicians on the medical staff place a small plaque, that looks like a bottle cap, in the eye directly over the location of the tumor. The plaque delivers a high dose of radiation to the affected area with minimal damage to the surrounding healthy tissue so that vision can be spared.

Eye plaque implants can be an outpatient or inpatient procedure, and the implant remains on the patient's eye for 48 to 72 hours.
