Texas Health's EHR Journey

Texas Health Resources approved and funded an electronic health record in 2004. The EHR, known as "CareConnect," has been implemented at 13 hospitals since 2006. Texas Health has invested more than $200 million in our EHR, which contains more than 4.7 million patient records.

EHR deployment highlights include:

  • "Big Bang": All patient care areas and EHR functions implemented simultaneously
  • Computerized physician order entry: Voluntary physician adoption at 80 percent systemwide; typically achieved at each hospital by the second week of go-live
  • Physician documentation: Greater than 95% of progress notes entered electronically

Improving Care and Efficiencies Nationwide

At Texas Health and nationwide, the electronic health record has been proven one of the most powerful tools for reducing medical errors, improving the quality of patient care and reducing costs.

Texas Health stands ready to build on our EHR deployment success over the past five years. Through Texas Health Advisory Services, our talented health information technology professionals help health care organizations innovate and adopt leading technologies to achieve improved patient care and enhanced performance.
