As a faith-based health care system, Texas Health Resources is committed to providing health care with respect for each person, confidence in the gifts of medicine and reliance on the healing power of faith. We are dedicated to caring for not only the physical needs of our patients, but also the emotional and spiritual needs. It is a dedication we take seriously as we acknowledge the sacred calling of caring for life — from birth through death.

Texas Health is rooted in the healing ministries of the Presbyterian Church and the United Methodist Church. The founders of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth were committed to a partnership between faith and medicine.

Texas Health continues to live the legacy of these founding organizations, recognizing that God meets people in their pain and heals their brokenness. Our faith-based statement guides us today and serves as a foundation for all that we do.

Leaning on Faith
Texas Health Resources believes there is something greater than ourselves and our medicine that can offer hope and healing. Believing this and leaning on faith can be a struggle during times of illness; Texas Health's pastoral care staff joins with patients and family members to help address concerns of the spirit, such as hope, despair, purpose, life, death, forgiveness, fear and doubt. Every Texas Health hospital offers pastoral care, with many chaplains dedicated to a specific unit or floor.

Faith in Action

Lillie Biggins, senior vice president of hospital operations, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth

"We have a strong ministry at Texas Health Resources of healing and of bringing comfort and hope to the people who come to us for care."

Lillie Biggins, president, Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Fort Worth

Listen to all that Biggins has to say about faith-based care.

Respect is a core value at Texas Health, and the organization respects and welcomes the diversity of religious faiths represented by our patients and employees. Our logo represents a tapestry of different experiences and beliefs, with an interconnectedness that reminds us that we are woven into our patients' lives. We are dedicated to honoring and respecting the beliefs that bring meaning and hope to those we serve.

Integrating Faith and Medicine
We believe that integrating faith and medicine can ultimately enhance treatment and the healing process. We are "Healing Hands, Caring Hearts," combining advanced technology with compassion, comfort and respect.

Faith and medicine come together naturally for caregivers at Texas Health, as they are encouraged to nurture their spirits and live out their faith in their work. Whether it is a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen or a hand to clasp in prayer, Texas Health staff members are dedicated to taking the time to care for the whole patient - body, mind and spirit.

From chapels and meditation gardens to chimes and prayer books, Texas Health provides opportunities for the integration of faith and medicine throughout our hospitals.
