Having a conversation with a friend. Enjoying a home-cooked meal. Putting on a favorite pair of shoes. Taking a walk around the neighborhood. How easy it is to take the simple activities of life for granted. The resilience of the human spirit is on display daily at the Mabee Rehabilitation Center, where patients strive to overcome the devastating effects of illness or injury.
Advanced technology, comprehensive and spacious facilities, and a quality team of clinical professionals combine to make the Mabee Rehabilitation Center the premier environment for those working to reclaim their lives.
The Inpatient Rehabilitation Program serves people from all walks of life who are dealing with challenges as a result of injury, illness or disease. These can be physical, cognitive or both.
Typical diagnoses made by physicians on the medical staff include, but are not limited to:
- Orthopedic problems such as hip fractures or replacements
- Neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis or Guillain-Barré syndrome
- Multiple trauma
- Musculoskeletal disorders
Every rehabilitation patient has an entire team of talented and caring professionals working to help him or her achieve the best possible outcome. The medical director is a physiatrist with board certification in physical medicine and rehabilitation, and is a member of the medical staff.
The medical director is joined by other psychiatrists and physicians on the medical staff along with case managers, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, rehabilitation nurses, chaplains, therapeutic recreation specialists, respiratory therapists, dietitians, psychologists and social workers. Of course, no team would be complete without the patient and family.
Led by a physician on the medical staff, each member of the care team contributes unique and important skills and services integral to the comprehensive treatment of the patient. Team members work together to plan, coordinate, and implement each patient's individual treatment program and to track his or her progress.
The goal of each patient's treatment program is a return to the highest level of independence possible under the circumstances. For some, this will mean complete recovery of all abilities. For others, it will mean learning to live productively with physical or cognitive challenges. The core of every patient's treatment is a personalized, interdisciplinary plan designed to meet his or her unique needs.
Inpatients at the Mabee Rehabilitation Center have the reassuring benefit of immediate access to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital services. If the need should ever arise, emergency services, surgical care, cardiac care and the full range of hospital services are literally close at hand.
