Reflexology

Reflexology is a unique method of using the thumb and fingers to stimulate "reflex areas" in the feet (and sometimes in the hands) that correspond to the glands, organs and other parts of the body. Stimulation of these reflex areas is thought to assist the body to biologically correct, strengthen and reinforce itself.

Some use of reflexology can be traced back to Native Americans, as well as ancient Egyptian and Asian societies. Eunice Ingham, a nurse and physical therapist, is credited with establishing modern reflexology techniques in the early 1930s.

Benefits of reflexology have been known to include:
  • Relieve stress and tension and provide relaxation as well as improve sleep
  • Unblock nerve impulse pathways and promote the flow of vital energies in the body
  • Relieve pain and headaches
  • Reduce blood pressure
  • Relieve PMS symptoms
  • Improve bowel function
  • Increase awareness of the mind-body connection
  • Improve overall sense of well-being
