Members are encouraged to attend 30-minute education classes each Friday. The classes focus on exercise and other important aspects of daily living, such as:
Exercise Principles, Part I
Led by an exercise physiologist, the class offers information on warm-up, components and requirements of aerobic exercise, strength training, flexibility, cool down and changes during chronic and vigorous exercise.
Exercise Principles, Part II
Led by an exercise physiologist, the class offers information on pulse rate, RPE (rating of perceived exertion), talk test, and exercise adaptation to seasonal weather changes.
Stress, It's How You Handle It!
Led by an exercise physiologist, this is a discussion identifying your positive and negative stressors and how you can react to them efficiently.
A demonstration by a registered nurse on learning and using simple relaxation techniques to balance the stress in your life with periods of relaxation.
Hypertension and Angina
Led by a registered nurse, this course helps understand numbers, risk factors and how to diagnose high blood pressure. It also provides tips on what provokes Angina, treatments, and communicating with your physician.
Emotional Aspects of Heart Disease
Led by an exercise physiologist, this is a discussion of the emotional phases that one goes through following a cardiac event.
Fuel for the Heart: Foods to Choose
Led by a registered nurse, this class is an overview of the DASH (Dietary Approach to Stop Hypertension) eating plan.

Understanding Cholesterol and Triglycerides
Led by a registered nurse, participants learn about cholesterol, types of cholesterol and understanding your numbers through diet, exercise, and drug therapy.
New and Innovative Approaches to Cardiovascular Risk Reduction
A physician-led discussion regarding evidence-based medicine and traditional preventative treatments.
A discussion with a registered nurse, including tips on how to choose appropriate heart-healthy food when dining out.
Anatomy and Physiology of the Heart
An overview of your heart and how it works, Includes basic EKG interpretation with a registered nurse.
A chaplain-led discussion on the role spiritual health plays in our overall sense of happiness and fulfillment, as well as the direct connection between spiritual wellness and physical health.
