Texas Health Resources to Host Youth Prodigy Program Fair
01/12/2011

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources’ Youth Prodigy program offers potentially life-changing opportunities for high school students interested in becoming a registered nurse or radiology professional.

To find out more, students should attend the 2011 Youth Prodigy Program Fair, sponsored by Texas Health Resources. The event will take place Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, in two sessions: 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Texas Health Resources Tower, 612 E. Lamar Blvd. in Arlington. The fair is free but attendees must register at TexasHealth.org/YouthProdigyProgram.

The Texas Health Resources Youth Prodigy program is designed to attract young people to the nursing or allied health fields (such as radiology) and to alleviate a career shortage that will continue to worsen as baby boomers reach retirement. The program offers education and employment to high school graduates who are interested in pursuing an Associate's Degree in Nursing or Radiology prior to obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree.

The program offers paid summer training and part-time job placement. Students work part-time at a Texas Health hospital while attending school, and Texas Health covers the cost of tuition, fees, books and related supplies.

Once students have completed an eight-week summer training experience and pass a national Patient Care Technician (PCT) certification exam, they apply for part-time positions at Texas Health facilities. These paid, part-time positions afford them the same benefits as any other part-time Texas Health employee.

“This program is life-changing for the students and their families, and we are thrilled to be a part of not only shaping their career paths but serving as their introduction to the field of health care,” said Jim Dunn, Ph.D., Texas Health's chief learning officer.

The event is educational in nature. It is not a job or career fair, or related to employment at Texas Health Resources.
