Texas Health Resources Offers Free Community Car Seat Check|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources is offering a community car seat check from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18 at the American Airlines Training and Conference Center in Fort Worth. As part of its mission to improve the health of the people in the communities served, Texas Health is expanding its Texas Health Child Automobile Safety Initiative.
“Approximately 180,000 children die or are injured each year because they are not restrained properly in car and booster seats,” said David Tesmer, senior vice president of advocacy and community benefit at Texas Health Resources. “A car seat check will help parents learn how to secure their children properly to help keep them safe.”
Texas Health employees are spending four days earning their certifications in car seat safety. This in turn will allow them to provide the valuable educational services in their communities and at the hospitals where they work.
“We currently have 28 certified child passenger safety technicians with another 15 Texas Health employees who have volunteered to become certified in this important mission. Some employees are nurses, patient care technicians, and nonclinical staff,” said Tesmer. “You’ll start seeing a lot more outreach in the community from Texas Health hospitals around child automobile safety.”
Parents interested in having their car seats checked can call 1-877-THR-WELL (1-877-847-9355). Checks are on a first-come, first-served basis. A limited number of car seats will be available for those in need.
