Texas Health Resources Launches IT Consulting Arm|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources today announced the launch of Texas Health Advisory Services, a professional services arm of the Innovative Technology Services division of Texas Health, one of the nation’s largest faith-based, nonprofit health systems. The new service provides expertise to help health care organizations nationwide innovate and adopt leading information technology (IT) to improve patient care and enhance performance.
Texas Health Advisory Services builds on Texas Health’s success in deploying the electronic health record (EHR) across its health system, which includes multiple hospitals. Texas Health has implemented the EHR at 13 hospitals since 2006. The system has invested more than $200 million in its EHR, which contains more than 4.7 million patient records.
“Texas Health has long been recognized as a national leader in the development and implementation of an EHR across a major health system,” said Stephen C. Hanson, Texas Health’s senior executive vice president for system growth and integration. “Other health systems have been coming to us for advice in this area for years. Texas Health Advisory Services enables us to provide IT consulting services to other health systems in a systematic manner.”
Texas Health’s IT team has helped the system set the pace for hospitals nationwide in areas such as physician adoption of computerized physician order entry (CPOE), an important component of the EHR that has been proven to help reduce medication errors. Texas Health’s adoption rate of approximately 90 percent places the system among the national leaders.
Initial services offered by Texas Health Advisory Services range from EHR advisory and hosting, implementation and optimization support to Meaningful Use readiness, IT strategic planning, and IT governance and project management office (PMO) assistance.
“Our talented IT professionals work closely with our caregivers to provide technology that helps improve quality and patient safety,” said Edward Marx, senior vice president and chief information officer at Texas Health. “Texas Health Advisory Services gives Texas Health and our IT team the chance to share what has worked for Texas Health’s patients and physicians with other health care providers.”
Texas Health Advisory Services recently completed an engagement that helped a large integrated delivery system implement adoption of its computerized physician entry order system by its physicians. Team members conducted an assessment on the system’s CPOE and made recommendations for enhanced adoption.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for Texas Health and our talented employees to leverage our experience to other health care organizations. We believe that this sharing of best practices will benefit patients nationwide,” said Marx. For more on Texas Health Advisory Services, visit TexasHealth.org/AdvisoryServices.
