Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton and Shred-it Offer Free Service for Residents to Securely Dispose of Household Documents 04/12/2011
DENTON, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hosptial Denton is joining with Shred-it to provide a free, environmentally-friendly document-shredding service to local communities in support of Earth Day. Texas Health Denton will host the “shredding event” on Saturday, April 23, the day after Earth Day, to enable local residents to dispose of household documents in a secure manner and, at the same time, recycle 100 percent of the shredded paper.
“Our mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve,” said Stan Morton, president of Texas Health Denton. “Enhancing the quality of our environment is an important part of improving health. This event is one example of the many 'green' programs we’re pursuing across the Texas Health Recources health system that are designed to lessen the impact our facilities have on the environment. By securely shredding documents, we can recycle thousands of tons of material each year that would otherwise go to landfills.”
According to security experts, shredding household documents that contain personal information is one of the steps people can take to prevent identify theft. Texas Health hospitals secure and dispose of millions of paper documents each month.
A bonded representative will set up and operate a mobile shredding unit in the hospital’s parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon on April 23. Local residents can bring up to five average-size file boxes of paper documents per household to be securely shredded and recycled. Metal clips and staples do not need to be removed, but cardboard and other heavy paper materials cannot be accepted.
