Presbyterian Hospital of Allen Earns Pathway to Excellenceâ„¢ Designation
06/24/2008

ALLEN, Texas – Presbyterian Hospital of Allen has received the Pathway to Excellence™ hospital designation, a highly sought-after distinction earned by healthcare organizations that create working environments where nurses can flourish.

The global award substantiates the professional satisfaction of nurses and identifies best places to work. It tells the public that nurses working in a Pathway to Excellence™ hospital know their efforts are supported and appreciated. The award, presented by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, was formerly known as the Texas Nursing Association’s “Nurse-Friendly” hospital designation.

“The Pathway to Excellence™ designation is a well-deserved honor, reflecting the team effort that our nurses engage in on a daily basis to provide quality patient care,” said Jane Cook, MSN, RN, CNAA-BC, chief nursing officer at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen (PHA). “I am delighted that our nursing staff is receiving national recognition for the competent and compassionate care they deliver daily.”

Achieving the Pathway to Excellence™ designation requires hospitals to meet strict criteria that are fundamental to providing a nursing environment that offers job satisfaction among nurses as well as job retention. A thorough review process includes evaluation of operating policies, procedures and management practices. It also includes nurses’ participation in a confidential, online survey rating their organization’s commitment to providing a positive workplace.

“Attaining the Pathway to Excellence™ designation is not easy,” said PHA President Sheila McKinney. “The review process is demanding and requires hospitals to meet essential elements that reflect the Pathway to Excellence™ criteria.

“The fact that PHA received this distinction confirms that we value our nurses, their contributions and the crucial role they play in safely caring for our patients,” she said. “As always, it is the front-line caregivers who make the difference in excellent patient care.”
