Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano Recognized by State for Breastfeeding Efforts|
PLANO, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano has been named a 2011 Texas Ten Step Facility by the Department of State Health Services and the Texas Hospital Association.
The designation recognizes hospitals that provide evidence-based care to improve breastfeeding outcomes, such as having trained staff available to assist breastfeeding mothers, keeping mom and baby together during the hospital stay, and providing resources for continued care after discharge.
“Breastfeeding has a host of benefits for both mom and baby, from bonding to total nutrition for the baby,” said Tracy Morgan, director of women’s and infants services for the hospital. “We are proud to be recognized for our breastfeeding efforts.”
Texas Health Plano is also one of six facilities in Texas to be named a Baby-Friendly Hospital by the World Health Organization. The other five Texas facilities to earn the designation are also part of the Texas Health Resources system in Allen, Arlington, Fort Worth, HEB and Stephenville.
As part of both the Texas Ten Step process and the review process for Baby-Friendly Hospital designation, Texas Health Plano has implemented policies to support new mothers before, during, and after delivery. These practices help the hospital increase the percent of mothers who reach their breastfeeding goals, and are an essential step toward meeting the Healthy People 2020 Breastfeeding Objectives.
