“We are excited to welcome Bob to the Texas Health family,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “He brings with him the passion and a breadth of experiences for successfully managing community hospitals and we look forward to sharing in his successes within the Azle community.”

Ellzey comes to Texas Health Azle from Mena Regional Health System, a 65-bed comprehensive municipal health system that serves a large area of western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma, where he served as chief executive officer. Before that he was with Laird Memorial Hospital, a 60-bed hospital operated by Community Hospital Corporation in Kilgore, Texas.

“Being asked to serve the community of Azle and surrounding area as the president of Texas Health Azle is a real privilege,” said Ellzey. “My wife Susan and I look forward to living in Azle and becoming involved in a local church and civic organizations.”

While in Arkansas, Ellzey worked to recruit physicians and improve the hospital’s quality scores and his health system’s ranking among Arkansas hospitals. Among many other accomplishments, he established a hospitalist program, initiated a wound care program, acquired an outpatient rehabilitation center, gained Level IV Trauma Center designation and established an active chaplaincy program.

Ellzey is also actively involved with several professional organizations including serving as vice president of the Arkansas Health Education Forum (ACHE Chapter), a member of the Arkansas Oklahoma Healthcare Consortium Board of Directors, and past president of the Board of Directors of the East Texas Chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Ellzey received an master's degree in hospital administration from University of Houston-Clear Lake. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University, where he was a member of the Baylor Chamber of Commerce.

Ellzey and his wife have been married for 30 years and have two grown sons.
