Texas Health Plano Hosting Two Free Heart Health Events|
PLANO, Texas — For weeks, hearts have dominated the aisles of grocery stores and other retail outlets. While the stores are promoting sweets and treats for your sweetheart, the abundance of hearts is a good reminder of the importance of taking care of your own heart health.
Heart disease is the leading killer of women in the United States. An estimated eight million women in the United States are living with heart disease, according to the American Heart Association. An estimated 90 percent of women have at least one risk factor for heart disease. That’s why Texas Health Resources is the North Texas sponsor of Go Red for Women, an initiative of the heart association.
In addition to the sponsorship, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano has planned two lectures for February to help share vital information about heart health. Both events are free, but registration is required.
The first event is aimed at women as part of the new Women’s Health Connection lecture series. Dr. Leena Sharan, a cardiologist on the medical staff at Texas Health Plano, will share tips and information. Texas Health Plano Chef Gary Vorstenbosch will demonstrate heart-healthy cooking techniques. The event will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, in the Texas Health Plano Bluebonnet Room.
The second heart lecture is open to men and women and is part of the hospital’s Advances in Medicine lecture series. Dr. Amir Choudhry, a cardiologist on the medical staff at Texas Health Plano, will talk about heart disease and its impact on women. The event will be held at 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, in the Texas Health Plano Bluebonnet Room.
“We take very seriously our mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve,” said Dr. Jeffrey Canose, FACHE, hospital president. “Hosting these free events to share ways that individuals can take control of their health is just one way we do that.”
To register for either lecture, call 1-877-THR-WELL (1-877-847-9355) or register online at TexasHealth.org/Advances or TexasHealth.org/WomensHealthConnection.
