Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro Donates Nearly 6,500 Food Items Following Annual Drive|
WINNSBORO, Texas – Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro (PHW) employees recently worked together to donate the monetary equivalent of nearly 6,500 non-perishable food items to the Church of Christ and the Northeast Texas Advocacy Center.
Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro employees credited the success of the food drive to healthy competition among departments, along with "Can Man," PHW's food drive mascot.
Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro employees donated 179 percent more than during the 2007 food drive, which equates to about 49 cans per employee. Proceeds from the food drive will provide about 7,763 meals to those in need in Winnsboro.
“The food drive is just one way that Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro employees demonstrate their commitment to the community in which they live and work,” said Michael Sinclair, administrator of Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro. “I'm proud of how our hospital staff and volunteers pulled together to exceed our goal and go above and beyond what was expected of them.”
Every department in the hospital, and the hospital volunteers, met or exceeded the departmental food drive goals.
Karen Sims, co-organizer of the food drive, said that a goal-chart posted in the lobby helped boost competition between departments, which in turn helped the hospital beat its original goal by more than 4,000 items.
Food service collected the most items, earning the department a gold medal at a recent employee celebration event. Winning the silver medal was the environmental services department while the volunteers captured the bronze medal. In addition, Ken Russell, in support services; Beverly Miller, in diabetes education; chief nursing executive Lisa Tarkington, CCRN; and volunteers Betty O’Barr, Burnell Hutcherson, and Don Sheffield, received recognition for individual contributions that went above and beyond.
The summer months are when more families are in need of food assistance, which is why Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro and Texas Health Resources hold food drives in June. Overall, Texas Health Resources collected more than 590,000 food items in the system-wide food drive.
