Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle Retains Level IV Trauma Center Status

AZLE, Texas — The Texas Department of State Health Services has re-designated Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle as a Level IV Trauma Center for the next four years. It is the only trauma-designated facility in northwest Tarrant County.

To earn the designation, the hospital must have the necessary equipment and resources to adequately care for trauma patients. Hospital officials review trauma cases every week, giving them the opportunity to deliver care based on best practices of trauma centers across the country. In addition, the hospital staffs radiology and surgery on a 24-hour basis to immediately care for trauma patients.

“When every second counts, Texas Health Azle continues to be a vital resource to the community,” said Shawn Davis, M.D., medical director of emergency services. “In an emergency situation we want to be the first place our patients think to come for the best care.”

Texas Health Azle is one of the busiest hospitals in northwest Tarrant County, operating a seven-bed emergency department that sees an average of 70 patients each day.

The trauma designation is important not only for individuals in an emergency situation, but also as recruiting tool that allows the hospital to attract and retain highly talented physicians.

“The Level IV trauma designation is one more way to emphasize to the community that we are committed to providing more comprehensive health care,” said Bob Ellzey, president of Texas Health Azle. “Our staff is proud to deliver compassionate care and is thoroughly invested in being the full-service facility that businesses in Azle and the surrounding area have come to rely on.”
