Texas Health Resources Hospitals Recognized for Improving Health Care Quality|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Eight Texas Health Resources hospitals have won a Texas Health Care Quality Improvement Award in recognition of their gains in key clinical areas designated as national health care priorities. This award, presented by TMF Health Quality Institute (TMF), recognizes hospitals that advance the quality of care in their facilities.
Six Texas Health hospitals were named Silver Award winners, and two earned Bronze Awards:
Also recognized were three Texas Health joint venture hospitals — Huguley Memorial Medical Center (Silver), Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital–WNJ (Silver) and Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Rockwall (Bronze).
Hospitals self-nominate for participation in the award program and agree to focus on making improvements in clinical areas that include acute myocardial infarction or AMI (heart attack), heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. Improvement in these areas has been designated a priority for U.S. health care by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and The Joint Commission, an independent, nonprofit, standards-setting and accrediting body in health care.
“Improving our care and quality holds vital importance for Texas Health Resources,” said Mark C. Lester, M.D., interim chief quality officer for Texas Health Resources and vice president and chief quality officer at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. “We’re grateful that TMF has recognized our efforts and encouraged our hospitals forward.”
TMF is an Austin-based nonprofit consultancy focused on promoting quality health and health care. The company established the awards program in partnership with the Texas Hospital Association, Texas Medical Association, Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals and Texas Osteopathic Medical Association.
“Quality improvement can be challenging,” said Dr. David E. Garza, president of the TMF board of trustees. “These hospitals have shown that it can be done through leadership, teamwork and focus. Their hard work results in a higher quality of care for patients.”
