“Dr. Bergstrom has all the skill sets that make for an ideal medical staff president — leadership, confidence, clinical and administrative expertise, along with a keen business savvy,” said Kirk King, hospital president. “I share the board and medical staff’s confidence in her ability to strengthen our physician governance and continue developing future medical staff leaders.

"Joan’s enthusiasm for and commitment to high service and quality will be a key factor in aligning goals between the hospital and its medical staff," King continued.

Having earned her medical degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Bergstrom completed her obstetrics and gynecology residency at Kansas University Medical Center and also served as chief resident. A fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, she is also a member of the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association.

Bergstrom earned a master’s degree in business administration in 2011 from Texas Tech University. Aside from her clinical responsibilities, she is an active member of the Arlington community and its civic organizations, founded the Arlington Independent School District’s Education Foundation and served three years on the district's Board of Trustees.

Currently, Bergstrom serves as chairperson of the Central Arlington Neighborhood Strategic Area Committee. She has previously served on various hospital committees and as chair of Texas Health Arlington Memorial’s Obstetrics and Gynecology Department from 1999 to 2001.

Other physicians serving as officers on the hospital’s medical staff include Joe DelPrincipe, D.O., president-elect; and Hoyt Frenzel, M.D., secretary.
