Free Program on Concerns About Falls Offered at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton
09/17/2012

WHEN: Fridays, beginning Oct. 5 through Nov. 30 (excluding week of Thanksgiving), 2 to 4 p.m.

WHAT: Attend eight, two-hour sessions designed to help adults, 60+, reduce their fears of falling and improve their overall health and well-being through group discussion, problem-solving strategies and increased physical activity.

By attending these sessions, participants will learn:

  • How to reduce fall hazards in their home
  • How to increase their strength and balance
  • How to improve their overall health through increased activity

WHO: Adults 60+

WHERE: Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton
The Center for Women (Trinity classroom – 1st floor)
207 Bonnie Brae Street
Denton, TX 76201

WHY: Half of older adults experience fear of falling, and many respond to this concern by curtailing activity. Being inactive results in loss of muscle strength and balance, but it can also compromise social interaction and increase the risk of isolation, depression and anxiety. Fear of falling can actually contribute to falling. One third of older adults fall each year. In 2005, a total of 15,802 persons 65 and older died as a result of injuries from falls, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

CONTACT: Seating is limited for this FREE event. To register, call 1-877-THR-WELL (1-877-847-9355) or visit TexasHealth.org/Classes.
