Nine Texas Health Resources Hospitals Earn Top Safety Grade From The Leapfrog Group|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Nine Texas Health Resources hospitals made “A” grades for patient safety — accounting for nearly 20 percent of the top-graded hospitals in Texas, according to the latest Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. The organization, a national watchdog on the quality and safety of hospital care, used publicly available quality measures and leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients to come up with the letter grades.
Nationally, about a third of hospitals were ranked “A,” with most hospitals earning a “C” grade. All Texas Health hospitals ranked “A” or “B.”
“Texas Health facilities place a high emphasis on continually analyzing our patient care and implementing new ways to improve care provided to each patient,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “Our employees believe strongly that it is their mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve, and these rankings show that dedication.”

“We are encouraged by this recognition,” said Dr. Mark Lester, Southeast Zone Clinical Lead and interim chief quality officer for Texas Health. “We are committed to the hard work of continually improving our quality and patient safety by creating a team environment. Texas Health also has implemented tools like the electronic health record to help caregivers provide high-quality care to each patient.”
The Hospital Safety Scores are calculated using 26 different measures, including hospital staffing, metrics on certain patient populations, and procedures for caregivers, such as medication reconciliation.
