Top Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Score Given to Texas Health Stephenville|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — It’s an “A” for Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville, according to The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score rankings. The organization considered publicly available quality and safety measures and leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients to develop a letter grade for hospitals.
Nationally, about a third of hospitals were ranked “A,” with most hospitals earning a “C” grade. Only 52 hospitals in Texas and less than 800 nationwide earned an “A” grade.
“We are thrilled that all of our caregivers’ efforts to continually improve the quality and safety of care we provide have been recognized by The Leapfrog Group,” said Christopher Leu, president of Texas Health Stephenville. “From the employees who assist with our electronic health record, to the environmental services employees who provide a clean and safe environment, to our frontline caregivers, every employee at Texas Health Stephenville can be proud of how they contributed to this score and to improving the experience of each patient.”
Other Texas Health hospitals to be graded an “A” are located in Arlington, Azle, Cleburne, Denton, Fort Worth, Hurst-Euless-Bedford, Plano and Southwest Fort Worth. Texas Health hospitals in Allen, Dallas and Kaufman were graded a “B,” still well above most hospitals in the country.
Texas Health has implemented a number of tools to help its hospitals improve their patient safety, such as an electronic health record and training on how to better communicate as a team. Texas Health hospitals also share best practices with each other, providing ongoing learning and growth in skills.
“Texas Health facilities place a high emphasis on continually analyzing our patient care and implementing new ways to improve care provided to each patient,” said Doug Hawthorne, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “Our employees believe strongly that it is their mission to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve and these rankings show that dedication.”
The Hospital Safety Scores are calculated using 26 different measures, including hospital staffing, measures of safety related to surgery and procedures for caregivers, such as medication reconciliation.
