Texas Health Azle Named to List of Top 100 Hospitals
03/06/2013

AZLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle has been named a Top 100 Hospital in the nation, and among only nine in Texas, for delivering high-quality care while improving efficiency.

Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Azle Board Member Steve Parker and Bob Ellzey, hospital president, accepted a 100 Top Hospital award from Truven Health Analytics. The awards dinner was held in Washington, D.C. at the Ritz Carlton Hotel on June 27.

This honor, given by Truven Health Analytics, annually recognizes hospitals across the nation on overall organization performance, which includes patient care, operational efficiency and financial stability. Honorees demonstrate high-quality patient outcomes and are chosen based on objective research and independent public data.

How closely the organizations follow the Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence is also taken into consideration.

"This achievement demonstrates our deep commitment to delivering high-quality health care to the communities we serve," said Bob Ellzey, FACHE, president of Texas Health Azle. "It reflects the high level of teamwork and focus put forth by every employee to continually provide excellence in care."

Top 100 Hospitals are chosen based on high performance in the following areas:

  • Risk-adjusted mortality
  • Risk-adjusted complications
  • Risk-adjusted patient safety
  • Core measures score
  • 30-day mortality rate
  • 30-day risk-adjusted readmission rate
  • Severity-adjusted average length of stay
  • Case mix- and wage-adjusted inpatient expense per adjusted discharge
  • Profitability (operating profit margin)
  • HCAHPS score (patient rating of overall hospital performance)

Ellzey credits Texas Health employees and leaders for consistently challenging themselves to find improvements, even in areas of strong performance. In addition to this achievement, the hospital received the Quest Award for High Value Healthcare, the Texas Medical Foundation Silver Award for Quality and was a Joint Commission Top Performer, in the last year alone.

"Maintaining a high level of quality and safety, efficiency and financial performance is vital to Texas Health as we move forward in the changing health care environment," said Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer for Texas Health. "We are honored to have Texas Health Azle recognized for their efforts to continuously reach for excellence in the care they provide."
