Harris Methodist Walls Regional Employees Donate School Supplies to Teen Mothers|
CLEBURNE, Texas – Employees in Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital’s Women’s Services department chipped in to donate school supplies to teenage mothers at Hannah House Maternity Home.
“We wanted to encourage the young mothers-to-be to continue their education,” said Carol Saul, one of the organizers of the effort and a charge nurse in the labor and delivery department. “Many of the girls’ other needs are taken care of. This was a fun way to provide supplies they needed not for their pregnancies, but for them to finish school.”
Hannah House, a program sponsored by Promiseland Ministries Inc., assists women and girls who range in age from 13 to 29.
Young mothers from the program deliver their babies at Harris Methodist Walls Regional. Hospital employees wanted to help the girls stay in school. Employees donated enough supplies to fully outfit six girls for the new school year.
“The school supplies were a great idea,” said Glennis Woodall, the founding director of Hannah House and Promiseland Ministries. “I can’t say enough about how wonderful the nursing staff at Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital is. I’m just very impressed with the way they love on the girls.”
The idea to donate school supplies resulted from Harris Methodist Walls Regional Hospital employees’ work with the unwed mothers and Hannah House.
“I am so proud of our employees who banded together to contribute and buy the school supplies and support our community,” said Kathleen Harlow, R.N., BSN, MSN, director of nursing women’s children’s and critical care services. “Everyone brought in what they could.”
