Texas Health Allen Launches Better Breathers Club|
ALLEN, Texas — Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Allen is launching a Better Breathers Club to assist citizens in the Texas Health Allen community with lung disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis, chronic bronchitis, asthma and emphysema. The club is designed to be a support group for people with lung disorders and their families to learn more about how to manage the condition.
“We are thrilled to start a Better Breathers Club to help our patients and their families,” said Dawn Thompson, an organizer of the club and a respiratory therapist at Texas Health Allen. “Living with lung disease can be difficult and we see this club as a way for individuals to learn from each other and share tips for how to live better.”
An estimated more than 35 million adults in the United States live with a lung disorder, according to the American Lung Association. The association charters Better Breathing Clubs across the country, including the one at Texas Health Allen.
The first meeting of the club will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at Texas Health Allen. Lunch will be served. The club meets on the third Friday of the month at lunchtime. There is no cost to attend.
