Texas Health HEB Earns Top Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group|
BEDFORD, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless Bedford earned an “A” grade for patient safety, according to the latest Hospital Safety Scores from The Leapfrog Group. The organization, a national watchdog on the quality and safety of hospital care, used publicly available quality and safety measures, as well as leadership commitment to creating a safe environment for patients, to come up with the letter grade.
Nationally, about a third of the 2,514 hospitals scored were ranked “A,” with the greatest number of hospitals earning a “C” grade.
“We are pleased that all of our caregivers’ efforts to continually improve the quality and safety of care we provide have been recognized by The Leapfrog Group,” said Deborah Paganelli, FACHE, president of Texas Health HEB.
“Texas Health’s mission is to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “This means becoming more transparent and willing to share with residents of North Texas and throughout the country how we’re doing on various measures of the quality of the care we provide at our hospitals. The Leapfrog rankings demonstrate our commitment to quality and safety on behalf of our patients.”
Other Texas Health hospitals that received “A” grades are located in Arlington, Azle, Cleburne, Denton, Fort Worth, Plano, Southwest Fort Worth and Stephenville. Texas Health hospitals in Allen, Dallas and Kaufman were graded a “B,” still well above most hospitals in the country.
“Maintaining a high level of quality and safety is absolutely critical to Texas Health as we continue our work to transform the delivery of health care in North Texas,” said Dr. Daniel Varga, chief clinical officer and senior executive vice president for Texas Health. “We encourage accountability for the care we provide and welcome public report cards such as the Leapfrog rankings.”
Calculated under the guidance of The Leapfrog Group’s eight-member Blue Ribbon Expert Panel, the Hospital Safety Score uses 26 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from infections, injuries, and medical and medication errors.
