Texas Health Resources on List of Best Places to Work in IT

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas Health Resources has been selected by IDG’s Computerworld magazine as one of the top 100 workplaces for information technology (IT) professionals. Texas Health ranked No. 31 in the national survey.

The honor is part of the weekly IT publication’s annual “Best Places to Work in IT” survey, which was published in the June 17 issue of Computerworld and online.

Since 1994, Computerworld’s annual “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.

“Our skilled information technology professionals are helping us transform the delivery of health care in North Texas,” said Jonathan Scholl, Texas Health chief strategy officer and executive vice president. “Finding and taking care of our dedicated workers is a top priority at Texas Health.”

Texas Health information technology professionals, like all system employees, are encouraged to take care of themselves to be more productive for work, family and personal responsibilities. Programs at Texas Health that help employees with this include:

  • Tuition reimbursement is available for full-time employees for up to $5,250 annually for clinical degrees and $4,000 for non-clinical programs. Part-time employees are also eligible for tuition reimbursement up to $2,625 annually for clinical degrees and $2,000 for non-clinical programs.
  • The Employee Assistance Program provides free or low cost tools and resources that assist employees with managing life’s challenges.
  • Employees are eligible to receive up to one work day of paid time off annually for performing community service.
  • Based on years of service, employees can earn up to $1.25 for every $1.00 contributed up to 6 percent of pay in the 401(k) retirement plan.

Texas Health was recently named one of the “2013 Best Employers for Healthy Lifestyles” by the National Business Group on Health. The system again earned the Gold distinction for its commitment to promoting a healthy workplace and encouraging employees and their families to maintain healthy lifestyles through its “Be Healthy” employee wellness program. In addition to benefits enjoyed by all Texas Health employees, IT professionals benefit from programs such as Connections, in which they spend at least a half day with a clinician annually. The program reinforces the impact that staffers’ jobs have on patient care. Additionally, many project teams work from home, taking advantage of social networking to build productivity. Employee development is pervasive and includes mentoring programs.
