Texas Health Burleson Earns Pediatric CT Accreditation|
BURLESON, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Outpatient Center Burleson was awarded a three-year accreditation in computed tomography for pediatric patients from the American College of Radiology. Computed tomography (CT) — a non-invasive imaging test — helps physicians diagnose and treat various medical conditions.
Accreditation means the facility has met rigorous national standards for patient safety and image quality set by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field.
“This accreditation affirms to our patients and their families that our CT scans meet the gold standard for patient safety and image quality and help minimize radiation exposure,” said Lance Tahmahkera, manager of Texas Health Burleson’s radiology department.
The facility’s imaging department participates in the “Image Gently” campaign created by the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric Radiology. The program promotes radiation protection during pediatric patient imaging. Parents are given a medical imaging record similar to an immunization record that keeps track of the radiation dose their child received.
The American College of Radiology is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
