Harris Methodist Erath County to Host Annual Power of Pink Women’s Luncheon and Seminar|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital will host its fifth annual Power of Pink Women’s Luncheon and Seminar from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at City Hall at City Limits.
“The Power of Pink event is a great time for women to take a moment to focus on their health and wellness needs,” said HMEC President Christopher Leu. “We are proud to offer an opportunity for women to learn more about the latest health information and a time to share their experiences with other women. It is part of our mission to improve the lives of the people in the communities we serve.”
As October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, part of the presentation will focus on the new digital mammography unit that Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital recently installed. Dr. Nanette Evans, a radiologist on the medical staff, will explain the importance of annual mammograms after age 40.
Evans will discuss the benefits of digital mammography, which enables radiologists to enhance images and create contrasts to better read images. Digital mammograms are particularly helpful for younger women and women with dense breasts. Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital employs the only registered mammography and breast sonography technologist in Stephenville.
But breast cancer will not be the only topic. Laurie McGuyer, R.D. L.D., a dietician at the hospital, will present information on how to decipher nutritional labels and the importance of a healthy diet. Also, Dr. Jean Paicurich, an OB/GYN on the medical staff, will speak about the importance of preventive health for women of all ages, including topics such as improving sexual health and attaining a healthy weight without gimmicks, she said.
The cost to attend is $10. To register for the event, please call 1-888-4-HARRIS or visit www.texashealth.org.
