Rotary Club Names HMSW Employer of the Year
06/20/2005

FORT WORTH – The Rotary Club of Fort Worth named Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital the 2005 Employer of the Year in the Non-Profit Category. The award was presented at the Rotary Club's June 17th meeting.

“We are thrilled to be named Employer of the Year by the Rotary,” said Stansel Harvey, president of Harris Methodist Southwest. “It is a testament to the quality of our staff and the benefits of working for a company where individuals care for other individuals.”

Companies were judged on the way they embrace the Rotary's Four-Way test in regards to employee relations. The Four-Way test was created in 1932 by Rotarian Herbert J. Taylor as he attempted to find a simple test for employees to follow in their business and professional lives. The test asks the following four questions: “Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”

“The way in which Harris Methodist Southwest embraces the Four-Way test is impressive,” said Lynda Tiedtke, Chair of the Employer-Employee Relations Committee of the Rotary Club of Fort Worth. “The hospital actively promotes open communications with employees, assists in the education of their staff, is active in the community, and shares their financial success with their employees. These elements are excellent examples of the Rotary Four-Way test.”

Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital is affiliated with Texas Health Resources and has served the residents of southwest Tarrant County since 1987. A full-service hospital built with its patients in mind, Harris Methodist Southwest offers comprehensive health care services. The personal approach to health care includes 24-hour emergency services, women's services, inpatient and outpatient services, rehabilitation services, diagnostic services and a variety of education classes.

Harris Methodist Southwest Hospital began construction on a new $34 million five-story bed tower in October. The tower will more than double the size of the hospital and its bed capacity. A medical surgical floor, an intensive care floor and physician office space will be included in the new tower. The tower also will provide future expansion space for Obstetrical and Women's Services, as well as an additional medical surgical floor. Construction of the new bed tower is expected to be complete by fall 2006. See a virtual tour of the 36-bed medical surgical unit of the new five-story tower.
