FORT WORTH, Texas — Gov. Rick Perry signed major medical liability and tort reform legislation Wednesday afternoon at Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital. Hundreds of hospital employees, physicians on the hospital's medical staff and members of the Metroplex community witnessed the ceremonial signing in the hospital lobby.
The legislation, known as House Bill 4, limits the amount of noneconomic monetary awards available in medical malpractice lawsuits. Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital President Barclay Berdan and Texas Health Resources Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Mason joined the governor, physicians and key legislative members for the signing.
