PHW Celebrates Expanded ER and 20th Anniversary

WINNSBORO, Texas – Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro held a grand opening of the newly rennovated emergency department and celebrated its 20th anniversary at the hospital on Fri., Dec. 9. Employees, volunteers and community leaders participated in the festivities.

The $1.8 million expansion of the emergency department (ED) added just over 2,500 square feet to the ED with two new examination rooms and a new triage room. The expansion also included a new covered entrance to the ED and a larger helipad.

“We can take care of patients in a more timely manner with increased patient satisfaction due to these recent additions,” says Glenda Vaughan, B.S.N., C.E.N., nurse manager of the emergency department at Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro. “With the helipad expansion, we can accommodate any type of helicopter. This means that in urgent situations, more than one craft can be utilized. And though the new helipad isn't quite as close to the ED as the former one, ours is still much closer than the helipads of most EDs.”

The hospital also celebrated it's 20-year anniversary with a proclaimation presented by Mayor Carolyn Jones and recognition of the hospitals 20-year employees including Nancy Birdine, Wanda Carpenter, Karen Cason, Cheryl Cotton, Sandra Crone, Sharie Ivey, Teresa Martin, Connie Payne, Elaine Shirley, Karen Sims and Wanda Sims.

The hospital had planned a large community-wide celebration on Sept. 24 that was canceled due to inclement weather. “This celebration was a smaller, more intimate affair, but still a very special one,” said hospital president, Matt Troup. “Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro has a 20 year history of growth and success in the community since opening its doors on December 16, 1985. We are so proud to be a growing part of this community.”
