HMHEB Oncology Nurse Honored by American Cancer Society 08/29/2006
BEDFORD, Texas – Jenny Ellis, R.N., M.S., O.C.N., a certified oncology nurse at Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital, was honored by the American Cancer Society (ACS) with the Commitment Award during the ACS' Annual Volunteer Celebration Aug. 24. A volunteer for the American Cancer Society since 1997, Ellis stands out in the Northeast Tarrant County community as a leader in oncology nursing and advocate of the ACS mission.
“Jenny always shows exceptional support above and beyond what is asked for by ACS, emulating a positive attitude in everything she does,” said Brenda Whitley, chair of the ACS Board of Directors for Tarrant County. “She takes on tasks with dedication and commitment – she champions major health campaigns for breast, colon and lung at Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital, volunteers as the nurse facilitator for the Northeast Tarrant County “Look Good, Feel Better” program and served as the Mission/Cancer Education Chair for the 2006 Northeast Tarrant County Relay For Life.”
“Jenny is dedicated to not only helping patients and their families during the battle with cancer and providing kind, compassionate patient care, but she also strives to promote early detection and diagnosis,” said Kirk King, president of Harris Methodist H•E•B Hospital. “It's not uncommon for her to come to the hospital on nights and weekends, outside of her regular shift, to support a cancer patient. Her human touch and amazing empathy toward our patients makes us all proud.”
