Alternative Treatment for Hemorrhoids Available at PHP 08/09/2002
PLANO – A new treatment for hemorrhoids is now available for patients at Presbyterian Hospital of Plano. The new surgical treatment alternative, called the Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids, was first launched in the United States in 2001 and is growing in popularity among physicians.
Dr. Todd Odom, on the medical staff of Presbyterian Hospital of Plano, is one of only a handful of surgeons in the area offering the treatment.
“For years, physicians and patients have been awaiting a surgical treatment for hemorrhoids that causes less pain and a shorter recovery period than traditional procedures,” Odom said. “Now we have one.”
With the use of a stapling device, the procedure essentially “lifts up” or repositions tissue to its original position. The result is a reduction of blood flow to the internal hemorrhoids, which typically shrink after the procedure.
