Texas Health Stephenville Names Employee of the Year and Manager of Excellence
01/29/2009

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville recently recognized two outstanding employees, Danny Decker and Virginia Acuna, who grew their roles over more than a decade working at the hospital.

“By constantly showing their commitment to Texas Health Stephenville through their caring actions, Danny and Virginia represent the best Texas Health Stephenville has to offer,” said Christopher Leu, hospital president. “Danny and Virginia both consistently take on extra challenges and additional responsibilities with ready smiles.”

In 1993, Danny Decker took a part-time job as a temp, never knowing that it would turn into a full-time job that he loved. Decker, who now serves as director of support services, was named Manager of Excellence.

“This is the best job I have ever had,” Decker said. “It is challenging and always interesting.”

Decker’s responsibilities include emergency management, security, safety, care of the physical building, nutrition services and environmental services. He also is involved with other Texas Health hospitals serving on various committees throughout the health system.

Virginia Acuna, who works in the Women’s Services department, has worked at the hospital for 15 years. Acuna, who was named employee of the year, spent the first seven years in housekeeping, but frequently helped translate for people who needed language assistance when they came into the hospital.

Her current role — patient care tech — has many responsibilities, including supporting nursing staff, bathing babies, ordering supplies and translating.

“One day I was approached and asked if I would like a position as a PCT. Personally, I did not think I could do it,” Acuna said.

To her surprise, the doctors and nurses helped pay for her training.

“I really appreciate the doctors and nurses for helping me out” Acuna said. “Everyone respects one another and everyone at the hospital is like a family. I love taking care of patients and making people feel better.”

Leu said Acuna’s story is one the hospital is thrilled to be part of.

“Texas Health Stephenville is proud to support employees looking to expand their horizons and better their careers,” he said. “It is so rewarding to see committed employees who care about what they do to further their careers.”
