Nuclear Medicine Department at Texas Health Plano Receives National Accreditation
04/20/2009

PLANO, Texas — The Nuclear Medicine department at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano recently received national accreditation from the American College of Radiology (ACR), joining the three other radiology departments already accredited at the hospital. These include Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and Ultrasound.

The American College of Radiology awards accreditation to facilities that demonstrate high-practice standards in all areas of operation including imaging and staffing. A peer-review evaluation is conducted by board-certified radiologists and medical physicists who report their findings to the College’s Committee on Accreditation. Programs are assessed on image quality, procedure evaluations, facility equipment, quality control procedures, quality assurance programs and personnel qualifications.

“Accreditation with the American College of Radiology is a voluntary process that Texas Health Plano has chosen to pursue throughout radiology in an effort to continually grow and strive for excellence in all that we do,” said Michael Putman, director of radiology at Texas Health Plano. “We are very proud of the hard work and dedication of our employees and the physicians on our medical staff, which has resulted in this important accomplishment.”

The announcement comes only weeks after Texas Health Plano’s cancer program received the 2008 New Program Outstanding Achievement Award from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC). The award, which recognizes cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients, is the highest honor bestowed after the CoC’s initial survey of a cancer facility.

"In our ongoing pursuit of the highest levels of clinical excellence at Texas Health Plano, we are very pleased and proud that our incredibly strong team in Nuclear Medicine has successfully exceeded all of the requirements for ACR accreditation in its specialty,” said Dr. Jeffrey Canose, president of Texas Health Plano. “The physicians, clinical professionals and non-clinical professionals at Texas Health Plano are always raising the bar to make sure we provide the best of the best to the patients we have the privilege to serve, and this is yet another example of what our team does to fulfill the mission, vision and values of Texas Health Resources.”
