Texas Health Stephenville Adds 12 Private Rooms|
STEPHENVILLE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville has converted a dozen of its semiprivate rooms on the inpatient floor to private rooms.
Ilda Martinez, R.N., director of medical/surgical services at Texas Health Stephenville, said patients and families have been enjoying the new private rooms.
Hospital employees are enjoying working in the private rooms, which enable them to better discuss treatment options in private, provide education, and allows more work space, said Ilda Martinez, R.N., director of medical/surgical services at Texas Health Stephenville. The hospital now has eight semiprivate rooms and 23 private inpatient rooms. Previously the hospital operated 11 private rooms from this department.
“We are excited to be able to offer private rooms to most of our patients,” said hospital president Christopher Leu. “In the last few years the trend has been to convert semiprivate rooms. We look at ways to upgrade our rooms and make them more comfortable for our patients and their families on an ongoing basis.”
The private rooms include sleeper sofas or chairs for family members who chose to stay with their loved one. Hospital staff is continuing to look at ways to spruce up each room.
Although the number of beds on the unit was decreased to create the private rooms, there still is more than enough capacity for the hospital’s average number of patients each day even during the busy winter months, Martinez said.
“Our staff works diligently to care for each patient," she said. "Private rooms are just another way that we’re responding to our patients’ needs.”
Considerations for private room assignments may include medical necessity, infection control, pediatric patients and inpatient hospice care.
“We have received positive feedback from patients and families already,” Martinez said.
