Nurse at Texas Health Cleburne named 'Rookie of the Year'|
CLEBURNE, Texas — Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Cleburne is proud to announce that LaDonna McKee has been named “Rookie of the Year” by the Texas Nurses Association’s District III. The award recognizes a new member of the nurses association — not necessarily someone new to the profession.
“Although I’m not a new nurse, having started my career 27 years ago, it seems like only yesterday I joined the profession,” McKee said. “I take pride in the fact that I spend many hours learning, not just being taught.”
Among McKee’s various accomplishments is that she worked to make Texas Health Cleburne the TNA’s first remote meeting site.
McKee recently was promoted to operating room supervisor, where volume has increased and complaints have decreased. Her coworkers describe her as the “go-to” person in the operating room and she works with most new employees showing them the ropes. She edits the Texas Health Cleburne monthly nursing newsletter and has chipped in on projects such as building floats for area parades.
“She clearly cares about the team she works with and she diligently treats everyone with respect and understanding,” said Cynthia Plonien, chief nurse executive at the hospital. “We are thrilled to have LaDonna working on the Texas Health Cleburne team. Her co-workers, patients and families all have commented about her commitment to excellence in everything she does.”
Outside of her work at Texas Health Cleburne, McKee is involved with other nonprofit organizations that support causes ranging from needy children to the handicapped, the food bank and cancer programs up to a regional tissue and organ procurement agency.
“LaDonna truly embodies the spirit of our mission which is to improve the health of the people in the communities we serve,” said Blake Kretz, hospital president. “Caring employees like LaDonna make all the difference in the world in ensuring we have compassionate, quality medical care in this community and we honor her tireless commitment to her patients and coworkers.”
