Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation Presents Greer Garson Gala

DALLAS — Presbyterian friends and supporters will have an opportunity to spend “A Night in Morocco” at the Greer Garson Gala on Saturday, Oct. 10 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel. Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation will host the annual fundraising Gala to benefit two worthy causes at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas: the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Parkinson’s disease research and programs.
“We are extremely grateful for the generous support of these many wonderful community organizations and individuals,” said Jay McAuley, President of Texas Health Presbyterian Foundation. “Our supporters have selflessly demonstrated a deep commitment to these important programs at our hospital.”
The Gala is named in honor of Academy Award-winning actress Greer Garson, whose husband, Col. E.E. “Buddy” Fogelson, died following complications from Parkinson’s disease at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. Mrs. Garson dedicated the later part of her life to supporting Parkinson’s research, which included the creation of The Fogelson Center for Parkinson’s and Other Neurological Disorders at Texas Health Dallas.

The 2009 Greer Garson Gala Co-chairs are Kara and Austin Adam and Jeannie and Nathan Denton. The Honorary Chairs are the Seanor Family.
Parkinson’s disease is a chronic and progressive disease that results when nerve cells of the brain die or are impaired. According to the National Parkinson Foundation, Parkinson’s is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s. It is estimated that approximately 1.5 million Americans are currently living with the disease — 15 percent of which are under age 50. There is no cure for the disease.
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Each year, approximately 6,000 babies are born at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. In 2008, a new record was set, with nearly 6,200 babies born at Texas Health Dallas — the same year as the 25th anniversary of the Margot Perot Center for Women and Infants. More than 800 of these young patients require the unique care offered by the medical staff of Texas Health Dallas. The 47-bed, Level III NICU is equipped to provide specialized care for these infants who come from as far away as Oklahoma and Louisiana.
