Texas Health Arlington Memorial Chief Operating Officer Announces Retirement|
ARLINGTON, Texas — Sandra Harris, RN, MS, FACHE, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, will retire after 37 years of service to the hospital. Harris plans to leave her post March 31.
“I leave a little piece of my heart with every encounter,” Harris said. “I have always loved Texas Health Arlington Memorial. Yet it’s my time to move on to enjoy more time with my family.”
Harris has witnessed much of the hospital’s growth, from the time she joined the staff as a part-time nurse in 1973 to her appointment as chief operating officer in 2005. Under her leadership, the hospital has opened a $76 million Tom Vandergriff surgical tower, earned one of the first Cycle III Chest Pain Center accreditations in the country from the Society of Chest Pain Centers, celebrated 50 years of service to the community, and begun a major expansion of its emergency department.
Harris began her career in 1968 as a civilian staff nurse at Griffiss Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y., followed by a three-year stint as staff nurse for JFK Medical Center in Edison, N.J. She holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the University of Texas in Arlington. She is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management.
“It has been a true honor and privilege to have served with her and have her counsel and support during my tenure at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital,” said Kirk King, FACHE, the hospital’s president. “Her compassion for the staff’s well being, for patients, and for the community is evident. There’s no question about how much she genuinely cares about people.”
