ARLINGTON, Texas — The Tarrant County Medical Society recently honored Mitch Kuppinger, MD, FCCP, with the 2009 Arlington Physician of the Year award.

Kuppinger, the medical director of respiratory therapy at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital, was anonymously voted to receive the award by members of the society’s Arlington branch.

To be eligible, physicians must be a practicing or retired member-physician and have served the Arlington community for at least 10 years.

“I was extraordinarily surprised,” Kuppinger said. “I feel very honored that my peers appreciate the work that I do.”

Kuppinger is championing the hospital’s implementation of the electronic health record. He belongs to several medical associations including the Texas Medical Association, the American College of Physicians and the Texas Thoracic Society.
