Support Groups

The following support groups and programs are provided meeting space on the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas campus as a service to our patients, their families, friends and to the community.

Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Class: Taught by an instructor from the Alzheimer's Association, the class meets from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the second Saturday of odd months in the Jackson Building, first floor conference room (behind the chapel. Call 214-540-2400 or 1-800-272-3900 for more information.

ANAD Eating Disorder Group: This group, for people with an eating disorder or their family members and friends, meets at 6 p.m. every Monday in the Community Mental Health Center. For more information, please call 214-345-2791.

AP Moms Group: This support group for women with high-risk pregnancies, hospitalized or at home, meets at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays, in the Perot Building, fourth floor, east patio. For more information, please call 214-345-8568.

Bariatric Surgery: Texas Health Dallas Bariatric Seminars are offered from 6 to 8 p.m. the first Thursday of every month. Anyone considering weight loss surgery is welcome to attend. The free seminars meet on the ninth floor of the main hospital building. For more information, call 214-345-5155.

Brain Injury Support (Stroke, AVM): This support group for brain injury patients and their family members meets at 6:30 p.m on the second Monday of each month in Fogelson, classroom A. For more information, please call 214-289-0286.

Breast Cancer: Woman to Woman: An education and support group for women with breast cancer meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month in the Radiation Oncology lobby. For more information, please call 214-345-7355 or 214-345-2036.

Better Breather's Club: The group, free for anyone with lung disease, lung cancer or recent lung surgery, meets once per quarter in the Finley Ewing Cardiovascular and Fitness Center. Topics relevant to COPD and lung diseases are discussed. For more information, please call 214-345-6759 or 214-345-4668.

Cancer Line: Call 214-345-8382 for a direct telephone transfer line for any individuals inquiring about oncology services at Texas Health Dallas.

Cancer Survivors (formally Cansurmount): Call 214-819-1200 for one-to-one, peer support for newly diagnosed patients who wish to talk with someone with a similar diagnosis.

Cancervive: This support group helps patients reclaim their lives after initial cancer treatment. The group meets from 10 a.m. to noon on the second Saturday of the month in the Radiation Oncology Building. For more information, please call 214-906-4869 or visit cancervive.org.

Caring Hearts: This group for the loss of a child through miscarriage, fetal loss or neonatal death meets at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month in the Fogelson Forum, classroom B, ground floor. No fee is required and this group is open to anyone in the community, but participants must register. For more information, please call 214-345-2613. 

Celiac Disease: Meets at 9 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month in the Southeast Conference Room, first floor, Main Building. Follow this link to request more information.

Children with Attention Deficit Disorder: Group meetings and support for anyone who has a child with ADD. For more information, please call 972-458-9226.

CLIMB® Program: The CLIMB® Program is a free support group for children who have parents with cancer. The program is for children ages 7 to 14 and meets once a week for six weeks. During the meetings, discussion and art are used to help children express their feelings. Children are provided with workbooks which they can share with their family members. Crohn's and Colitis: Open to anyone suffering from Crohn's or Colitis, their family members and caretakers. This group meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the GI Lab waiting room, first floor, Main Building. For more information, please call 214-345-2662.

Diabetes: Meets at 6:30 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month in Haggar Hall, Fogelson Forum, ground floor. For more information, please call 214-345-6450.

Dialogue: An informal discussion group providing opportunities to share common experiences in coping with cancer. This ongoing program continues through the year. Dialogue meets at 7 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of every month in the Radiation Oncology Center.

Epilepsy Support Group for Adults (English): Meets at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month in the Main Building, southeast conference room, first floor. Facilitator: Mary Cudly R.N., LMSW. Please call 214-345-4155 to be added to the mailing list confirm meeting dates or for information on the monthly program.

Hepatitis Support Group: Meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month in the GI Lab waiting room, first floor, Main Building. For more information, please call 214-345-7813.

Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillators Patient Support Group: Meets three times a year in Haggar Hall. Dates and times vary. For more information, please call 214-345-4261.

La Leche League: Meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month in the Perot lower level conference room. Open to anyone who will be having a baby or recently delivered. For more information, please call 214-321-1019.

Look Good, Feel Better: A licensed cosmetologist, registered nurse and social worker help individuals with cancer gain control and even triumph over the side effects of cancer treatment. Individuals discover that looking good really makes them feel so much better. For more information, please call 214-345-6959.

Man to Man: Texas Health Dallas and the American Cancer Society offer a one-on-one support program designed primarily for newly diagnosed prostate cancer patients. Referral is made through the American Cancer Society to set up an inpatient visit or home visit. Call 214-819-1200 or contact the American Cancer Society at 1-800-ACS-2345.

Mended Hearts: Support group for cardiac patients and their families. Meets at 6:45 p.m. on the second Tuesday of February, April, August and October in the Fogelson Forum, classroom C. For more information, please call 214-357-9686 or 972-385-0772.

New Mom's Group: Meets every Tuesday, with the goal of building parenting skills and sharing concerns, in the Perot building, lower level, conference room. Fee is $25 per month. For more information please contact Melissa Skinner at 214-345-8568 or Kelly Trip at 214-345-6050.

Newborns - birth to 6 months, meets from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Graduate Moms - 6 to 12 months, meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Toddler Moms - 12 to 24 months, meets second and third Monday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Ostomy Association: The United Ostomy Association is a volunteer-based health organization dedicated to assisting people who have had or will have intestinal or urinary diversions. Meets at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month in the southeast conference room, main building, first floor. For more information, please call 972-931-9651.

Pancreatic Cancer Support Group: This group, for patients and family members affected by pancreatic cancer, provides ongoing support and promotes dialogue and an open forum to ask questions directly to the participating physician. Meets at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in Classroom B on the ground floor of the Fogelson building. For more information, please call 214-345-4054.

Parkinson's "Tai Chi": Classes meet at 2 p.m. every Thursday in the Finley Ewing Cardiovascular and Fitness Center, 5721 Phoenix Drive, Studio 2. For more information, please call 214-345-4662.

"Us Too" Prostate Cancer Support Program:  An education and support group for men who have or have had prostate cancer. An informative speaker opens the program and follows with questions and answers. Meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday each month in Haggar Hall, sections F & H, Fogelson Forum, ground floor. For more information, please call 214-345-5030.

Prehab Classes for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacment: Free classes help prepare the patient and family members for what to expect after having a total joint replacement. A physical therapist, occupational therapist, home health aide and dietitian also provide information to the attendees. Classes are held in the Southeast conference room, main building, first floor. Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Support Group: Meets the third Saturday of each month in the Southeast Conference Room, located in the main hospital building on the Texas Health Dallas campus. For more information, call 214-345-4224.

Reach to Recovery: A rehabilitation program designed to help women who have or have had breast cancer meet the physical, emotional and cosmetic needs related to their disease and treatment. Referral is made to the American Cancer Society for inpatient visit or home visit. NOTE: Requires physician referral.
