The Premier healthcare alliance has honored six hospitals nationally for patient safety and risk management initiatives, and Texas Health entities captured three of the awards. Texas Health Plano received a $10,000 award for "Addressing Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Patients at Risk for Post-Surgical Complications." Texas Health Fort Worth was honored with a $10,000 prize for "The Breath of Life: Using Bubble CPAP to Decrease Chronic Lung Disease in Premature Infants.” The Texas Health Resources system was awarded a $5,000 prize for the “Patient Safety Direct Observations Program.” The awards were recently mentioned on HospitalNetwork.com.

Kathryn Vance, R.N., endoscopy resource nurse at Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Southwest Fort Worth, was highlighted on Nurse.com and in Nurseweek magazine for being selected among gastroenterology and endoscopy nurses and associates nationwide to receive the 2010 National Proud to be GI Award from the Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Inc.

The event celebrated Krum EMS members and the crucial work they do in the field that lays the groundwork for the treatment that is then provided by the hospital.
