Sports writer Kevin Sherrington’s column detailed the medical odyssey of former Ponder High School football coach Patrick McLarty, who suffered a rare type of stroke in 2009. He was rushed to Texas Health Dallas, where Denning performed surgery to relieve pressure on his brain and treat the arterial gas embolism. Today, McLarty is back to work as an educator in Ponder with almost no signs of his brush with death.
